And now...a few words from our
students...

"I liked when they hatched. When they are dry they are beautiful. It was good that I could put my hand in and touch them."
"I felt very sad when some of them died, but I liked the part when they started jumping on each other."
"I liked the part when we got to hold the chicks. They were peeping at each other. When Mrs. Pollack was talking, the chicks fell asleep."
"I learned that the chicks peck at their shell for a little. Then they go to sleep for a little. And I learned that the incubator is like their mother to keep them warm. And I learned that as soon as they hatch they still have to be kept warm."
"The chick process is very interesting and fun. They were supposed to hatch after 21 days, but it was 28."
"I learned that an egg takes 6 hours to hatch. I also learned they have to be kept at 100 degrees F. I thought that it was neat that they hatched."
"The hatching of the chickens was very interesting. I think that some chickens were lucky to hatch. Some chichens weren't that lucky because they died before they came out. I think that the chickens should stay in our school because we would probably give them a much better home."
"I think pecking out of an egg is pretty hard because you have to use a lot of energy and rest a couple of times in order to get out and get air. It was fun to look at the baby chicks."
"I thought how the chicks hatched was really fascinating. I thought they would be very energetic and not go to sleep when they hatched. When we picked them up they were so calm. I thought they would bite me.
"I think it was fun watching those chicks get out of their egg. It must have been very hard. But they still came out looking cute."
"I learned that the egg shell is made from a type of calcium carbonate called calcite. I learned about the parts of the egg."
"Before the chicks hatched we were learning about the membranes and the egg sections. We were studying the process of the chick forming in the egg, and about the important parts of the incubator. It was fun, and I learned a lot about the egg process."
"I learned that the chick is disgusting. They crack the shell and blood comes out."
"Chicks are a lot of work to take care of."
"It was so cool that it
had to be so hot. I like that the chicks got really fluffy.
I never knew that."
"I didn't think any of the eggs would hatch. It must be hard for a chicken to hatch out of an egg."
"I think it was special and fun learning about them."
"Thank you, Mrs. Pollack, for teaching us about chicks. It was very informative. You taught us and we had fun at the same time."
"I think that the chicks are cute when they have hair on them. The chicks are ugly when they come out of the egg. I learned that chicks come out all bloody."
