Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2009
in 2-Cia

Ms. Ciampa’s Second Grade Class celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by having students’ parents and grandparents come in to share their culture.  The children enjoyed food from Korea, China, Japan, and India.  Mrs. Sung taught the children how to write and pronounce some words in Chinese.  She also demonstrated how to use chopsticks.  The children were able to test their fine motor skills when they tasted dumplings from China.  Mrs. Kim showed the class how to make sushi and brought in enough for all the children to try.  In addition, she dressed her children in traditional dress called Hannbok for the Korean New Year and danced the Fan Dance.  Mrs. Kane helped the children make a beautiful flower called Rangoli. This is a design that is made outside homes during Diwali.  Thank you to our guests who volunteered to share their culture.  The students truly enjoyed both the food and activities.
