Holocaust Survivor Speaks to EVG Sixth Graders
2009

Author and Holocaust survivor, Goldy Hess, spoke to our sixth graders on April 27 to mark this year's Holocaust Remembrance Day. She spoke about her escape from Germany to Italy, being held in internment camps, and her final escape to Switzerland. This ordeal lasted for 5 years, beginning when she was only 5 years old. Her focus was on the help her family received from many non-Jewish groups along the way.

Her message is this: "With all that happened, we shouldn't be here. we were hidden, we were chased, we were scared. In spite of everything we survived, and look what was accomplished."

She reminded all of us that as humans, we are all responsible for helping each other.

The students listened attentively and had many questions to ask about her experiences.
